New Balance opening in Settlers' Green in April

CONWAY — New Balance, the only athletic shoe company still manufacturing in the United States, is opening a new outlet store in Settlers' Green Outlet Village.The company, headquartered in Boston, Mass., was founded in 1906 and is a $2 billion company. New Balance has deep roots in New England, continuing to manufacture in the United States with factories in Norridgewock, Skowhegan and Norway, Maine. In fact, 25 percent of its U.S. sales of shoes are products made in the U.S., and its U.S. facilities employ over 2,000 manufacturing, executive and sales personnel.
The new store is expected to open in April in the "airport hangar" building at the entrance to Settlers' Green, where Orvis was previously located.
"This is a great American company with deep roots in New England, and we are thrilled that they are opening in our center," said OVP Management Inc. general manager Dot Seybold. "The unique 'airport hangar' building deserved a quality retailer, and New Balance is one of the best."
As a supplier of technically engineered military apparel for the United States Marines, New Balance has also worked with all branches of the military on innovative gear. New Balance is also one of the few elite athletic shoes made in an extensive range of lengths and widths, allowing for a more perfect fitting shoe. The product line includes shoes and apparel for the entire family.
The company is a leader is sustainable manufacturing and in assuring the health of its workers, in the U.S. and the world. In 2011, New Balance announced its partnership with the City of Boston for the New Balance Hubway Bike Share program. The program provides members low-cost access to bicycles for in and around the hub of Boston. New Balance also recently established a $7 million initiative with Children's Hospital for the Prevention of Childhood Obesity, a growing problem in the U.S. and the world.
The outlet store at Settlers' Green will occupy approximately 4,400 square feet of retail space and will employ approximately 25 associates and management personnel. The new store will feature the company's prototype fixtures and merchandising décor and will be open in April of 2013.
